Specialized OCD Therapy in Asheville, NC
Break Free From OCD
You don't have to live at the mercy of intrusive thoughts and compulsive rituals. Evidence-based treatment can help you reclaim your life.
Do These Experiences Sound Familiar?
- ✓ Unwanted, intrusive thoughts that won't go away
- ✓ Feeling driven to perform rituals or mental compulsions
- ✓ Constant doubt, even when you "know" something is fine
- ✓ Spending hours each day stuck in obsessive cycles
- ✓ Avoiding situations that trigger your fears
- ✓ Seeking reassurance from others repeatedly
- ✓ Feeling like your mind is working against you
- ✓ Exhaustion from the constant mental battle
If this sounds like you, you're not alone. According to the International OCD Foundation, OCD affects approximately 1 in 40 adults in the United States (roughly 2.5% of the population). Effective treatment exists, and most people experience significant improvement.
Specialized OCD Treatment Approaches
I use the most effective, research-backed treatments for OCD
Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT)
I-CBT targets the root of OCD by addressing why obsessive thoughts feel so believable. I-CBT goes beyond managing anxiety. We work on the reasoning process that makes you distrust your senses and trust your imagination instead.
A 2024 randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology found that I-CBT produced outcomes comparable to ERP, with some participants finding it easier to engage with (Aardema et al., 2024).
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is the gold-standard behavioral treatment for OCD. Through gradual, systematic exposure to feared situations while resisting compulsions, you learn that anxiety decreases naturally without rituals.
According to the American Psychological Association, approximately 60-80% of people who complete ERP treatment see significant reduction in OCD symptoms (APA, 2007). We work together to create a hierarchy of challenges at a pace that feels manageable for you.
OCD Takes Many Forms

Why Work With an OCD Specialist?
Most therapists aren't trained in OCD
According to the International OCD Foundation, it takes an average of 14-17 years from the onset of OCD symptoms to receive appropriate treatment. Many general therapists use talk therapy approaches that can actually reinforce OCD patterns. Specialized OCD treatment requires specific training in ERP and/or I-CBT.
Specialized treatment gets better results
Research consistently shows that ERP and I-CBT produce significantly better outcomes for OCD than general therapy approaches. The American Psychological Association recommends ERP as the first-line psychological treatment for OCD. Working with someone who understands the nuances of OCD means more effective, efficient treatment.
About Tim Prokesch, LCSWA
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate who has made OCD treatment the primary focus of my practice. I've seen firsthand how much OCD can take from a person's life when left untreated, and how dramatically things can improve with the right approach.
I'm trained in both I-CBT and ERP, and I tailor my approach to each client. Some people respond better to one method, and many benefit from elements of both. My goal is to help you break free from the OCD cycle as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Most of my current clients and referrals come to me specifically for OCD. That focus means I see a wide range of OCD presentations and stay current with the latest research and treatment developments in the field.
